Handbook.md shows that long policy documents do not reliably govern agents

Language-model agents are increasingly deployed under standing instructions: a system prompt, a policy file, or a skills document is placed in context, and the agent is trusted to let it govern every action that follows. Existing benchmarks rarely test this deployment pattern directly; they measure whether an agent can complete a task, not whether a long, binding policy document actually constrains its behavior over an extended tool-use horizon. We present HANDBOOK.md, a benchmark of 65 agentic tasks modeled on how enterprise employees follow company handbooks. Each task places an agent in...

NextEra strikes deal for $100B Kentucky data center project

The country's largest utility, NextEra Energy, has struck a deal with investment giant Brookfield to build a $100 billion data center campus in Kentucky. The Paducah site, which previously housed a Cold War-era uranium enrichment facility, will be overhauled to include a 2-gigawatt natural gas-fired power plant and up to 2.6 gigawatts of battery storage capacity — enough to power nearly 2 million homes. The investment is one of the largest in Kentucky's history; it's expected to create 8,000 construction jobs and 600 permanent ones, according to the U.S. Energy Department.

So, you want to make a game engine (2023)

Unity's recent controversy sparked a heated debate on game engines. Some said that everyone should immediately switch to a new engine, while others replied that switching engines can take months if not years. Some said that the best way is to roll your own game engine, to what others noted that this isn't a simple task. And, you know, everyone is right here: there's no single answer, everything depends on a specific case. But maybe writing your own engine isn't as hard as it sounds? Why would one do that anyway? What does it even mean to make a game engine?
